On-Site Performances and Workshops

The Whiting is proud to offer a variety of education and outreach activities to elementary, junior high, high school, college teachers and students, local organizations and community groups. Our list of educational opportunities includes music, dance, culture, language and theatre activities with touring performers. These workshops take place at The Whiting, or to make it easy on you, they can take place at your school through our On-Site School Workshops at no cost.

 

 

 

 

 


Student Rush Tickets

Native American Dance TheatreHigh school and college students can experience live theater, dance, jazz & blues and musical performances for a little more than the cost of a movie ticket.  Most performances presented by The Whiting have Student Rush rates available. 

Student Rush rates allow students to purchase tickets for only $12 per ticket (limit 4) on the day of the performance.  Students can visit or call The Ticket Center at (810) 237-7333 to purchase tickets and will receive the best seats available!  To receive the special rate, students just need to show their student ID when they pick up their tickets.

Teachers bringing 10 or more students to any show at Student Rush prices are also eligible to purchase a ticket for just $12.00!


Wednesdays at The Whiting

A Career Field Study Program for high school juniors and seniors
Explore Michigan’s Career Pathways with the staff of The Whiting

During your visit you will:

  • Meet with employees from multiple career fields for a panel discussion
  • Tour the theatre and meet with backstage employees

    The Whiting positions include:
  • Director
  • Guest Services Manager
  • Front of House Manager
  • Advertising & Promotions Manager
  • Education/Outreach Coordinator
  • Rentals & Artist Services Coordinator
  • House Electrician
  • House Carpenter/Union Steward

    Student objective:
  • Identify employability skills
  • Identify career interaction in the workplace
  • Identify new career pathways
  • Apply curriculum to real life situation
  • Ascertain the various paths to a career in the performing arts

    Each session is 60 minutes – 30 minutes with the employees for a panel discussion and 30 minutes for the tour and backstage experience. Groups are limited to 15 students but larger groups can be accommodated by dividing into two smaller groups experiencing the two sessions simultaneously.
