FLINT, MI. —  The annual holiday gift-giving tradition doesn’t have to be a challenge. The Whiting and Capitol Theatre have a few unique items and online productions that may bring joy this time of year while also helping your favorite cultural institutions.

The Whiting is offering two streaming musicals perfect for holiday cheer while you are at home for the holidays. For tickets, visit

  • The Hip Hop Nutcracker is a contemporary dance spectacle set to Tchaikovsky’s timeless music. This live capture, filmed as part of a partnership with PBS, features a supercharged cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist and MC Kurtis Blow, who is one of hip hop’s founding fathers. The Hip Hop Nutcracker will be available to stream December 11 & 12 at 7 p.m.; December 13 at 3 p.m.; December 18 & 19 at 7 p.m., and December 20 at 3 p.m. Streaming will only be available during these times. There are two streaming packages available; the first features only the musical and the second features the musical and after chat with the actors.

  • Also available for streaming is Eleanor’s Very Merry Christmas Wish – The Musical, which tells the story of a rag doll named Eleanor who lives in the magical world of The North Pole. Despite her love for her family, Eleanor’s wish is for a best friend and home of her own. Realizing that wishing is not enough, she writes a letter to Santa expressing her dream. The letter opens the door to answering many questions and to the journey which leads to her wish coming true.

The musical is on sale now and available for purchase until December 24. You will have 30 days to view the musical at the time of purchase, but once the musical starts, you only have 48 hours to watch it. Enhance your viewing experience with the purchase of immersive party boxes. Eleanor’s Very Merry Christmas Party in a Box comes with the 2020 edition of the book that inspired the show, a 2020 Eleanor Christmas ornament, Letters to Santa stationery and additional family fun items inspired by the production.
